Euphorbia Walberton’s Little Treasure makes shortlist

The RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year 2026 Shortlist includes the already- popular Euphorbia x martini Walberton’s® Little Treasure® (WALEULITR).

Launched in 2025, this variety made an impression with both the trade and consumers for its year-round interest.

Developed in the UK by the team at Walberton Plants, Euphorbia Walberton’s® Little Treasure® is a compact and versatile Euphorbia that brings year-round interest to gardens and containers. Its bright yellow foliage is a standout feature, providing a vibrant splash of colour from spring through early summer. As temperatures cool, the growing tips take on a warm copper hue, adding a seasonal twist to its visual appeal. But this plant is not just about looks; its hardy nature and adaptability make it a practical choice for a variety of settings.

Designers Lee Connelly (The Children’s Gardening Coach) and Leigh Johnstone (The Beardy Gardener) will be including Walberton’s® Little Treasure® within their show garden, The Classroom Garden, this year.

Lee Connelly said: “Euphorbia Walberton’s® Little Treasure is a perfect example of the kind of plant we need more of in children’s gardening, something that’s tough, dependable and still brings real beauty into a space. In The Classroom Garden, every plant has to work hard, not just visually, but educationally too. This is a plant that helps us show children and schools that gardening doesn’t have to be complicated to be inspiring.”

As a fun and vibrant plant, Euphorbia Walberton’s® Little Treasure® is a great choice. The colour changing leaves and unusual flowers of this plant are sure to be a hit with curious youngsters visiting the show.

The Walberton’s plant breeding programme

The team at Walberton’s have a reputation for plant breeding excellence. Started by the late great David Tristram in 1973, the breeding is now led by Eva Erhart. Over the years, the Walberton’s team has developed and launched countless fantastic varieties, including Scabiosa ‘Butterfly Blue’, Spiraea ‘Magic Carpet’, Ajuga ‘Black Scallop’ and many more.

The launch of Euphorbia x martini Walberton’s® Little Treasure® is the latest from this team’s outstanding plant breeding, showcasing innovation and dedication to excellence. With its unique characteristics and undeniable charm, this new variety is poised to make a big impact in gardens everywhere.
